As police uncover the dismembered remains of an unidentified boy on the banks of a suburban stream, a mysterious, decomposing predator strikes again, plucking another boy, Nick, from their midst. Nick is the son of Elli Carpenter, a single mom and psychiatrist who works at a mental health facility for the criminally insane, and her estranged husband, Mike Tranquilli, an unemployed structural engineer. But they can’t report their missing child to the police.
Through a link, www.mordecaimacabre.com, the predator shows Elli and Mike a horrifying video of young Nick strapped to a suffocating “Panic Chair.” They are instructed to follow the killer’s orders to the letter, or their son will die in 48 hours. It’s not so much what the killer wants but whom…Danielle Velayo.
Now deformed, Danielle survived a horrific attack, and was convicted of multiple crimes, including the murders of her sister and ex-boyfriend. Danielle is serving her sentence under Elli’s care. Like any good psychiatrist, Elli believes that Danielle’s tales of possession are the products of a disturbed mind. But she comes to know, all too well, that child-killer Crowe and Zymytryk the Great Mesmerizer are real, and one in the same. Crowe has possessed Zymytryk’s old, decaying body, and now the child-killer desperately desires a new, younger host.
In order to complete his transformation to another body, Crowe needs Zymytryk’s magnetic talisman, and Danielle is the only one who knows where it is. Elli and Mike discover that the talisman has been destroyed, but it still exists as a brand on Danielle’s palm. Elli and Mike’s attempt to free Danielle from the mental health facility fails, and all seems to be lost until Danielle suggests the unthinkable. In a horrific act of selflessness, Danielle allows Elli and Mike to amputate her hand, and take it to Crowe.
It becomes a race against time to save their son as Elli and Mike hurtle down a deadly path of supernatural retribution where there is seemingly no return.
